Privacy Policy
Aleto is operated from the Netherlands. This Privacy Policy explains what information Aleto collects, how it is used, and how you can contact us.
1. Who we are
Aleto is a location-aware video app operated by its founder from the Netherlands. For privacy questions, contact us at privacy@aleto.video.
2. Minimum age
Aleto is intended for users aged 16 and older. Do not use Aleto if you are under 16.
3. Information we collect
Depending on how you use Aleto, we may collect and process:
- Account information, such as your email address, Firebase user ID, username, and email verification status.
- User-generated content, such as uploaded videos, thumbnails, captions, tags, comments, reports, and moderation review requests.
- Engagement information, such as likes, dislikes, favorites, views, comment votes, and followed cities.
- City and country choices that you select in the app. Aleto does not collect precise GPS location for this feature.
- Notification information, such as notification permission status, Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens, city topic subscriptions, and local digest/inbox data.
- Security and moderation information, such as report records, audit logs, rate-limit records, App Check status, moderation decisions, and abuse-prevention data.
- Analytics and diagnostic information through Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, including app interactions, crash reports, device/app diagnostics, and stability data.
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- Create and manage user accounts.
- Upload, display, share, and moderate videos and comments.
- Provide local city feeds and city-based notifications.
- Operate account deletion, post deletion, reporting, moderation, and abuse-prevention systems.
- Improve app performance, reliability, safety, and user experience.
- Debug crashes and technical issues.
- Comply with legal, security, and platform requirements.
5. Firebase and service providers
Aleto uses Firebase and Google Cloud services, including Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Firebase App Check, Firebase Analytics, and Firebase Crashlytics. These services help us authenticate users, store content, deliver notifications, protect the app, analyze usage, and fix crashes.
6. Public content
Videos, thumbnails, captions, tags, usernames shown on posts, city labels, comments, and engagement counts may be visible to other users or through shared Aleto links. Do not upload content that you do not want others to see.
7. Location and city data
Aleto uses user-selected city and country information to organize local feeds and notifications. Aleto does not use precise GPS location for this feature.
8. Notifications
If you allow notifications, Aleto may send city-based local digest notifications and other app notifications. You can disable notifications in your device settings or change local digest preferences in Aleto settings.
9. Account deletion
You can request deletion of your account in the Aleto app under Settings → Delete account. If you cannot access the app, you can request deletion using the instructions on our Account Deletion page.
When your account is deleted, your account profile data is deleted or anonymized. Some public content may remain visible in anonymized form where necessary to preserve public conversations, moderation integrity, safety, or legal records.
10. Data retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide Aleto, maintain security and moderation systems, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our rules. Uploaded media that is not connected to a completed post may be removed by automated cleanup.
11. Your choices
You can edit your profile information, choose followed cities, disable local digests, delete posts, and delete your account from within the app. You may contact privacy@aleto.video for privacy-related requests.
12. GeoNames attribution
City and geographic data may include data from GeoNames (geonames.org), used under the Creative Commons Attribution license.
